In response to interesting things in the three Journals I read:
first off -:|:- ignore that last blog...if you knew what my life was like you would understand why happiness is a choice...I just forgot to choose...so now back to living

Tim wrote some sort of article about Syncretism.(Yeah I had no idea either.) Anyway, here are my notes.
  1. Overall - I really like the flow of your words and chunked ideas and think that you have a wonderful way of putting together information into an ever-widening river that seems to glide gently. It is very easy to read whatever you write. Slightly funny and originally informative with it's own brand of written wit (you don't usually see people write their emotion on the page like BLAM! or WOOHOO!). Highly opinionated but does not seem to play huge favorites aside from general logic and self-interest. I do however think that it fizzled towards the end and I didn't get any major conclusions that weren't already being drawn out in the previous parts.
  2. Favorite stuff - Greco-Roman Religious System. I found this little part really interesting. I liked how the Romans simply took the forms of other countries Gods and made them their own and this allowed for easier assimilation of conquered lands. I think this to be the same even outside of religion. For example, if I treat an old Korean woman the same way I would treat an old woman in America then the idea of respect transcends any lack of understanding about customs or language. All cultures are syncratic(did I use that right?) in so many ways, not just religions. I think that since we all stemmed form the basic tribal principals and that class societal values haven't become prevalent in more than the last 300 years, I still believe most of our customs as humans exist and we can therefore transcend barriers by simply adhering to human law and respect. (I have no idea if any of that made sense...see Mike..still no good at it...hahaha).

I loved the allusions you made to stories and overlaying of systems. I really saw all that for what I think you intended it to be because you gave it a physical form in your writing, just like a teacher doing an experiment in front of the class. I think that's when all this stuff started to really kick was when I could read you drawing it or building it as if to show me in person with some sort of magic wand.

The Christian metaphor to movies was good too and so was the way you tied it all in together with other religions. I especially liked the voodoo tale, it seems that when you can take an extravagant tangent to make an analogy people perk up more. Anyway the Christian metaphor was cool because it makes me think of my movie justice (which I'm convinced I stole the rules for from another movie or directors voice over). I always seem to think about moral justice in a movie and as of late I am never wrong. Like Luke lost his hand because he was the son of absolute evil and Han was frozen because he was a gambler and everyone bad eventually dies, etc... It's as though there is a point system and it all leads back to the Bible I think. Or it at least leads back to one major theme that stems from those original stories. Oh yeah and Luke I think identified more with David than Jesus, or if not David, than the expected Messiah.

  3. Objection - The Topsy Turvy Funhouse World of Christian Syncretism - Here you say that the Romans were envelopers of the world and accepted most other religions in order to operate so thoroughly. What I have read from Short History of The World(wells), and The Dark Side of Christianity(?), is that most of these lands, barbaric tribes, or kingdoms that the Romans conquered, especially under Alexander, had one thing in common. Their Gods were in statue form and the leaders of those lands, especially the Egyptians and those of the crescent valley (Turkey, Pakistan...), believed that if the statues were knocked down or taken away than there God was dead and that they would worship the new God put in its place, i.e. the bust of Caesar. This was why Caesar started getting the idea to erect statues of himself around the provinces of Rome (that and when the Egyptians taught him the idea of the man-god). Anyway, just a small stipulation about the Romans being able to live with the new religions. Most of the religions changed when they saw their God taken down off the mantle. The whole Christian thing is right on though. They totally got in trouble because they wouldn't bow to Caesar or call him a God.

Mike wrote some stuff on why he wants to be a lawyer. When he told me he wanted to be a lawyer, or that he was attending law school, excuse me. I was happy. I was happy because I knew why he wanted to be one. You see law opens doors and he sort of explains this in his blog. Law allows you to not just play the game but to go drinking with the referee after and wink to the owner during. I think the people Mike talked to obviously didn't know him very well if they told him those things about women, white women (lol), or whatever negativity he received. If there is a person that can do something righteous with the endeavor it's Mike. I have no doubt of his intention and think it is a positive step in a direction that he eventually needed to go to achieve whatever was in his heart. Bravo Michael!

Douglas Atwell the 8th (I have no idea why I call him that..I just do..it's such a royal name..I wish my full first name was Bretothious). You know I'm not gonna front and act like Doug and I go way back. I'm not gonna sit around and say that Doug and I have had a lot of moments(there was that time we went to Towson though and I got my teeth kicked in but Doug hung the whole time when he could have split and I was like, "Yeah aight Doug's solid"). And you know what it's a shame that I can't say that. It's a shame because when I read Doug writing I can see Doug thinking and when I think of the few moments I have had speaking with Doug about anything the more enlightened I got. That's what is good about good people, you always grow when you are around them, and you don't feel anything wasted because you have learned in some way. Anyway, Doug writes well and he seems to write with a nice dark and light passion. Like's he's trying to paint the most beautiful sunset in hues of black and white. You know it's a sunset and that's great but there's something deeper than that. But he wrote this on some message board and I'm snakin it..."i do feel that the journey is as important as the destination. living without a firm idea of where i'm going for most of my life has really forced me to enjoy the passions that you find along the way." That's really true and I hope Doug does find his way. He sounds merrier anyway and seems to be helping Tim and that's all good.

Well anyway...they are talented people...and guys don't feel the need to write back any sort of bull crap about me or how wonderful I am blah blah blah...just reading your stuff and seeing everyone grow is like talking to you anyway and that's thanks enough...be cool
