Don't let the Dow Fool You

The 1000 points it's gotten back in the last 2 days are because of people cashing out of their shorts. And by shorts I don't mean clothes... people already made their millions shorting companies and are now - - reinvesting in them. It's a hiccup - we are still on a serious downward spiral that I predict will bottom out at 5500 with a current state of emergency that the housing market will be down 10% from last year and unemployment will be close to 15%.

Causing us to enter the next great recession (4-5 years)... And even worse... we have no one to borrow from. Pray/prey that the Saudi's become our friends again...

Song of the Day: Godspeed! You Black Emperor

"As long as you keep a straight face I will be there when you die."

It's just one of those songs that everyone should sing or hear at some point.

Happy Halloween this week - uh - is it over yet? I wouldn't even notice. lol

Breeder's Market

Market opened up 550 points down - - that is the most it can open down. LOL _ could be the worst day in market history.

In lighter news - the best horse and owner in the last 20 years will be racing the Breeders Cup Tom... that would be Curlin'. Like Big Brown that doesn't get hurt. Tune in and watch a special animal...

That is all - - Cross St Sunday, Pumpkins and such - - and Moose Dashes.

The Question about Question 2

Now that the prez race seems to be all but shrunken up... it's time to turn our attention to the more pressing issue here in Baltimore. And btw - when they tell you that you have to go vote at a certain polling stationed in Baltimore - it's only because they want you to vote on your local issues as well - facts are - you can vote anywhere if you want.

So - question 2 = SLOTS! Most of you reading this are saying, "Bret must be in favor of slots." BZZZZ (That was the Family Feud buzzer sound).

The arguments in favor of slots are those of the Republicans and the heavy lobbyist. And they will want to turn your eyes towards the good that slots can bring. They'll say, "Oh slots will bring in over 650 million dollars of new tax funds.", "People are gambling anyway both here and in other states with Maryland money that isn't taxed so let's bring it in house.", "We already have gambling in the form of horse racing and lottery." All of these are valid reasons.

I however have my counterpoints.

The stats that we have received about the 650 million dollars we are proposed to get are skewed at best. The lobbyists who are not represented as a business in this state create this number. They are located in Connecticut and Mississippi (where they make slot machines). Hence, those tax dollars that we are creating are also going to bolster other economies and are not whole heartedly serving the good of our state.

Another observation that you can take is to look at states where slots have been allowed and to see how much they have "improved". West Wirgina according to the study in the City Paper was promised similar stats with different demographics and in their case, while the lobbyist of the race tracks and local bars seem to have loved it, I don't think you'll find many other local West Virginians falling over themselves to hold up the slots sign in honor. They have not seen an improvement in schools, roads, or the police force as they have promised. They have seen an improvement directly AROUND the racetrack - which compared to Pimlico and Ocean Downs, Charlestown is a relatively underdeveloped community.

The final argument that I have is basically a moral one. Let's face facts. Slots are a poor tax. Poor people play them in poor places with other poor people practicing poor habits and perpetuating poverty. Slots are an even worse idea in the city of Baltimore where we have a 40% unemployment rate and so many people living below the poverty line that it is amazing that this city hasn't self-destructed. The only thing that slots perpetuate in Baltimore is more poverty. The money spent on the slots will only cause more heartache and more problems within our community.

While I would love to see Maryland take better care of it's schools, roads, emergency resources such as fire and police, I have very little desire to do it on the backs of those that will suffer the most.

I believe every person has a choice in what they do in life. If you want to gamble, then gamble. But, our Government, and protectors or our welfare and the flag waivers of our what are supposed to be our highest common good, should not be the one's to provide us with more self-destructive measures in order to make their jobs easier when it comes to taking care of our city.

In lighter news - Willie Don. S. is going to finally get a statue in Harbor Place - I hope he'll be alive to dedicate it. He deserves it.

- - -

In crappier news - I hate wind. I can deal with snow, rain, heat, hail, falling puppies... but I refuse to deal with the wind. It's the worst weather.

I know we have all seen it by now... Palin SNL

Best SNL moment since Dick in a Box and Cowbell.

Powell switching sides was the death blow for McCain. Get your biodiesels ready to head down to DC for the inauguration.

"Cuz that smile be Creepy but when I'm VP all the leaders of the world gonna finally meet me."

"Shoot a mother humpin moose 8 days of the week."

Is anyone starting to feel the economic fear out there? Layoffs etc...? We laid off quite a few people last week... that was round 1.

Bringing it on back: Super Bio Astronaut Man Wants Diseased Kids with You
Anyone remember these - - someone at work found them and I was looking through them and man... some of them are pretty damn funny...

Prerequisite:
I am a woman seeking a man aged 35 to 45 in the greater Baltimore area.

"Marvelous Marvel the Magical Man"

It's been almost 6 months since my son was born. I think its time to date.

Where the fuck is he, in the fortress of solitude? Nothing says "hot" like premature babies, ceiling mirrors, and a diaper covering said premature baby, while you watch reruns of Simon and Simon.

How may ladies are just wet looking at this photo? Oh man this gets me HOT! And somebody tell him that it's ok to wear a shirt in the hospital for Pete's sake.

Sickly "feel sorry for me" or "I'm a man that can take care of his keeeeds" photo.

Round 5 of shirtless father with tubed baby.

Personal Description:

I LIVE IN BALTIMORE BUT I AM ORIGINALLY FROM NORTH CAROLINA.I TAKE PERSONAL PRIDE IN MYSELF WITHOUT BEING VAIN,I ONLY ASK THAT YOU ACCEPT ME FOR WHO I AM AND THE WAY I MAKE YOU FEEL AND NOT BY WHAT OTHERS THINK.I LIKE TO CONSIDER MYSELF AS THE LAST CLASSIC GENTLEMAN AND PROBALLY ONE OF THE FEW ROMANTICS LEFT.I COOK MY OWN MEALS FOR MYSELF AND MY 14 MONTH OLD.I LOVE OLD SCHOOL R&B MUSIC BECAUSE I GREW UP DURING THAT ERA AND I LIKE TO LISTEN TO WHAT LOVE AND LIFE IS REALLY ABOUT NOT CALLING WOMEN SOMETHING THEY ARE NOT AND SONGS ABOUT SHOOTING,KILLING,ROBBING AND VIOLENCE.THE LADY IN MY LIFE SHOULD BE A WOMAN OF THE WORLD BUT NOT BE A PART OF THE WORLD.SHE SHOULD BE A LADY TO HER MATE,A DEDICATED SOUL TO GOD,A GOOD LISTENER,A BEST FRIEND AND SOMEONE WITH WHOM I CAN HAVE STIMULATING CONVERSATIONS WITH NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES THE SUBJECT CHANGES SHE CAN KEEP UP AND I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.MY QUEEN SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO LET A MAN KNOW IF SHE'S INTERESTED IN HIM. I FEEL FLATTERED WHEN A LADY TELLS ME SHE'S INTERESTED. LIKE THE SONG BY "SUNSHINE ANDERSON" SAYS"LUNCH OR DINNER".IF YOU CAN RELATE TO THIS SONG ,THEN YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT ME THAN YOU NEVER WOULD HAVE IMAGINED.
I ALSO CAN'T FIND THE CAPS BUTTON! OH WAIT! THERE IT is. Whew... now I can really show you what Marvelous Marvel the Magical entertainer is all about. So babies - all my babies - except for my premie diseased baby that is. My babies - my lovely ladies - come hang out with Marvel - we can groove it til the needle breaks off baby..

Peronsally, if you want to pose with your new born baby - that's cool with me. But I don't know too many ladies out there that are going to be clamoring for a chance to jump the bones of a man that not only JUST had a child but also had a child that is obviously shall we say, "Light in the hips." I mean Jesus man. Can't you go without online poontang 'til that sickly child is at least 1. I mean then you can at least do tricks with her or something.

Also, dude, seriously, the CAPS thing. Were you afraid that you may just start doing ThIS aLl OveR thE SCrEEn? Anyway - "MY QUEEN SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO LET A MAN KNOW IF SHE'S INTERESTED IN HIM." First off you are taking a photo of you and your new born. I'm going to assume in order to knock this woman you probably used that bullshit "queen" line before. And we all see where that has gotten you: online, bare chested, with a sub-weighted baby, talking about looking for your next piece of HooHoo pie. Look, Marvelous Magical Marvel I understand your addiction to sing Poppa Was a Rolling Stone 7 times a day and walk around with your cockzilla germanating the planet with rodent babies, but my man, keep it offline and out of the sights of the JVMM.

Descriptive Hilarities:
"I WENT TO SCHOOL IN NORTH CAROLINA AT GOLDSBORO HIGH SCHOOL.I GOT MY G.E.D. FROM LENOIR COMMUNITY CLOOEGE.I HAVE A MASTER'S IN QUAMTUM PHYSICS,A MASTERS IN GENETIC ENGINEERING,A ELECTRONICS DEGREE,AN ART DEGREE,AND A NURSE'S LISCENS"

I swear people, I didn't even see this before I started writing anything else. This changes everything. I had no idea you were on par with some of our great minds. You and Noam Chomsky, maybe Hawking, and Gunter can all get together and play a game of Scrabble. First off, you would have to be about 107 to receive all those degrees "Marvelous" And second off - I believe a prerequisite for most of our Quantum Physics Nurses is to at least be able to master the spelling of the word "College". But, you know, that's just us.
"Favorite hot spots: harbor, home, park, would love to see the ocean one day for the first time and watch the sunrise and sunset "

It amazes us that a Genetic Nuclear Electronic Artist Nurse would not have the monetary means to have had the justification or leisurely income to possibly procure a trip to what would be 70 percent of the world at some point. I mean, with all your trips abroad to discuss the latest in Nuclear Art, or Genetic Electronics, or even G.E.D. Nursing "CLOOEGE" you would have had the time or the discovery propelled inclination to possibly peruse the ocean. But, I guess not.

Obvious Flaws:
Possibly retarded, Bad genes, Bad hair, strange appeal to all white tuxedos, I have no idea where people like this grew up or how they exist.

Hilarity Rating (1-10):
9

Debate Round 3

Hey McCain camp... if you are going to tell your fighter something along the lines of.. "This is the last round Rocky... you gotta knock him out to win..." You probably want to arm him with something better than "Plumber Joe" and "You're a terrorist".

McCain came off looking like a haymaker throwing wino instead of a presidential candidate. While I still feel his platform benefits America more than the Democratic one... I can't in good conscious cast my vote for that man or his proposed administration.

However, I still hope he wins.

I don't think any of you have any idea how much America will suffer if a Democrat is elected. In this current state - layoffs and unemployment are going to be so huge that I just started feeling it yesterday as my company laid off 15% of it's people. The lives of the poor will not improve and the large corporations and small businesses that create jobs will get out of the market and out of the country because of his absurd tax hikes. The Rooney's of Pittsburgh are already looking to sell the Steelers after owning them for 8 billion years because they fear the capital gains tax that MUCH!

Best line of the night belonged to McCain though "The last time America faced this kind of crisis and elected a Democrat, it was Herbert Hoover and then followed the great depression."

And by the way America - - a tax cut does not mean a tax rebate. I actually talked to someone yesterday at the bar that thought if Obama won that they would get a check. Unreal.

That was definitely the best debate but... it was a last minute ditch for McCain to show passion and Obama just looked like he was playing the prevent defense in a 24-7 game in the 4th quarter. I do have to say that Obama's answers seem less rehearsed and I swear to God that every piece of my body hopes that the 1% of him that is for real... will actually come to fruition when he takes office. I'll be at the inauguration... I think many people should go. It would be a great day for America on many fronts but mostly because - as a person - he is the brightest light of hope I have seen come out of Washington in my lifetime.

Credit Crisis Update: Dow’s Wild Ride Convinces Some We’ve Seen the Bottom

Friday, October 10, 2008

For all your day traders out there....

In my office we are just watching the rise and fall of the stock market... this is the theme song of the day...

"If it keeps on raining... the levee is going to break."

The Dow of Dreams

When the dollar looks like your safe investment... you know you are fucked. The DOW today will plummet towards it's deepest depths since 2000...below 8500 and into territory that no one saw coming. I would like that the media for portraying this "Crisis" as a fucking nuclear bomb. Because you.... TV... are responsible now for this mass hysteria. Banks have money again... people can borrow... but still you run 2 hours every night a series called "THE ECONOMIC CRISIS"... like it's the war in fucking Baghdad.

Media needs to get off it's high horse and shut the fuck up for 5 days. Else... and this is a bold prediction... the USA for the first time ever without a domestic tragedy... in order to avert a total meltdown... may shut down the markets on Monday... yeah... shut them down...

Stay tuned...
BTW - if you have money... buy Ebay, BoA, Lehmens, and every other financial institution available... any major company with liquid assets should be considered on the rebound once they are able to pay their employees again....

Sound Bites and Town Hall Recap

"And I have news for you, Senator Obama. We are in a time of economic crisis."

That right there made me want to write this...

Obama has always started out strong and then started to fade after his celebrity status starts to give way to the real issue that people care about. Tax increases. Nobody cares about the war. Very few people care about health care and entitlement. Energy is up there because it creates jobs in the short and long run but - if McCain wants to win he just has to keep saying that "Obama will not create jobs and I will..."

Everything else - save for Medicare and welfare they'll agree on... But when Obama tells you that he will cut taxes for 95% of Americans - it really is a complete sham.

This debate is much more professional than the last one... not that many sound bites.

I do have to say... that if America ever wanted to make a statement to the world that we are willing to elect a hopeful celebrity in the vein of JFK - this is our shot ....because damn if I almost don't want to vote for him because he exudes hope.... the problem with it is... it's not real.

There isn't much hope to escape what we have dug ourselves into. Cronyism isn't going anywhere and these campaigns aren't being run by mom and pop shops and you and I... they are being run as always, by special interests... which of those special interest groups represent you? I'm willing to bet... not many.

And Tom Brokaw couldn't be any more of a douche bag - just tell them to shut up if they run over time.

BTW - even though I'm not going to vote for him... when Obama gets elected... I'm going to the inauguration because while it may all be bullshit... if for the 1% chance that isn't... I want to be there the day he gets sworn in.

"Do you believe health care should be treated as a commodity?" - Jesus... no. You know why your deductibles and premiums have gone up? - - Lawsuits, insurance fraud, and people who don't pay taxes using our healthcare system like a whore. You want health insurance... well then give up the Navy? You want to be France...? Move there... here, we start wars... thanks. Oooohhh John just showed them the difference between them on healthcare... the 5k$ tax credit is stupid but he was on a roll when he said that the Gov't wants to handle healthcare...very few people know how much of a clown car that would be.

That's all for now - - I like a townhall... Obama comes out like a lion and fades like a kitten... McCain may have won that debate...if he hadn't said "my friends" 109 times.

A special shout out to the Biden hair plugs and his deep sighs.

Nobody won... but Palin got hella lost on some points. Biden is a professional bull shitter and Palin is just out of her depth. This debate won't decide anything because I don't think at this point anyone believe anyone... Do I get to keep my job? Can I retire one day? If I get sick will someone fix me? - yes to all 3? - then I'll swear you in on the Washington Bible. Edge elephants by the way on all three of those. --- well for me anyway.

Palin vs Biden

Tonight may be one of the greatest evenings in debate history. It is certainly Must See TV - - and the House vote for the budget boondoggle on CSPAN - - holy shit I'm 55.

I may even go to a quiet bar and watch it.
