Sex and the Citi

Or you could change that to "Take me down to Paradise Citi..."

- Well if you work for Citi you can take a deep breath because you are about to receive a 70b$ injection loan that you will no doubt fold on. America is becoming a very dangerous country when business and Government start to meld. If we bail out the automakers - it will be a black mark on our legitimacy throughout the world for years to come and it will set the worse precedent imaginable. What's next? The farmers, the shipping industry, the fisherman, the plumbers -- all will expect a handout. They won't get it - but the point is that they'll be running their businesses with the hope that it exists... somewhere - -

Maybe we should have concert headed by Bob Seger called CarAid...

Btw - Citi is a pretty good buy right now at $3.50

Top Chef Axes Baltimore Girl

It took 2 episodes for them to axe the chef from Red Maple - if she could have just said why she wanted to stay then that old bag would have been kicked off... ok - I'm openly talking about some sort of reality television show... enough... but it would have been nice to see some sort of Bio on her and Mt Vernon etc... or at least to be given a nickname by one of those PerezHilton type websites - at least enough to have faux ejaculate drawn her face... booo

Iron and Wine

Pushing the screen door
With the rusty brown latch and spring coil
Making that "Oh so home" sound.
To the front yard with the black walnut tree
And the porch that sags just a bit on the right
Since the foundation was never properly mended.

"Ma'm" and "Please" - "Thank you" and "How Kind"
Litter our mouths as we taste
What could only be the sweet words
Of southern anthems sprinkled in northern education.

Grasshoppers and lightening bugs
Entertain our nightly stage as
Lemonade dressed with Iced Tea
Lines the ideas of the evening.

Nightly news and stock markets must be for other people.

Sugar spilt on the counter
Doesn't make its way to cloth.
Somehow cornbread from dinner becomes dessert.
And what doesn't ring true,
Doesn't make a sound.

Blood and oceans replace Christ and stars,
And time senses that it matters less.
Barefoot outside to the feed the dogs,
The grass sticks to your feet.
On your way in - you sigh at the chipped paint
Where little ones once drew their name.

Your mother is on hold on the phone
Upside down on the kitchen island
Next to tomorrow's chicken
Covered by a tea towel.
She wants to know how you are doing.

This is how Sam Beam sounds to me.

Market...?

What market? DJIA Bottoms out at 6k is what I'm calling - worse thing that will ever happen to America as a whole is if they bailout these absurd auto makers... When the 3rd world looks like the most capitalistic society left... I'm outta here... Having money to borrow is one thing... keeping stupid companies that make horrible prodcuts around just because they are part of our nation's "identity" is quite another. Retool. Grab your balls. Learn to do something. Signed - Adam Smith.

Obama and the Fairness Doctrine

His first test will be his position on the Fairness Doctrine. If he flip flops on it, because he knew that it would hurt him in the election if he supported it, then I will officially be soured by the start of his administration. This is a good litmus for how serious he is when considering his non-liberal constituents. I am willing to be he'll flop on it - because Nancy Pelosi will want to reassure him that she is still "queen" of the other building down the street...

This will be his staff's first body blow.

Top Chef at Red Maple

Nov. 12 a Baltimore Top Chef contestant will be cooking at the Red Maple to celebrate the launch of the new Top Chef season. Just FYI - it's 35$ and if I wasn't going to be in Florida Erin would certainly want to go - and I would roll my eyes a lot... but likely go.

How the tone changes...for Barack Obama

I don't know about you, but not once - other than the initial ground breaking moment at the DNC did my friends, the media, or I REALLY take in the fact that this was a "black man" that was being elected. I felt bad seeing all the papers depict his victory and overshadow a man of great character, great oratory abilities, and who really is a vision of hope as a race hero/story first and our next President second.

Would McCain's cover have said "Senior Citizen's rejoice as first man over 70 is elected and finally gives hope to the Geriatric community."? That's a stretch but I think you get my point. I don't see our new President as anything more than our next President. Media shouldn't try to continue to remind me that this race was won by race or that race was a huge issue... because honestly...I don't think it ever was.

The interviews in the last few days that I have seen on television have gone from the absurd Horatio Alger story to the downright ridiculous stereotypes that have started to be churned and heaped by the African community back on themselves.

"Now, we can become anything we want."
"Now, we have hope."
"This makes me think that I too can one day become president."

Those are very freightening statements about the America that was yesterday and the one that we have today. Was there no hope – 2 months ago? Is the new President really THE symbol for hope?

To me he has been a rallying point for all the disenfranchised but not as a symbol for their hope. For their hope is muddled in the ideology of smoke and mirrors. I keep trying to ask people what "change" they are hoping to see... and no one can seem to answer me. They only know that they rallied behind a figure/symbol that they believed in and their voice was heard.

President elect Obama is not a story of hope. It's rather delusional to think that %99.9 of America can identify with President elect Obama. If you happen to graduate from Harvard Law, marry a Harvard Lawyer, then Chicago Law etc... then maybe you can work your way up to "President". Else, aim to your abilities.

And this is not a black/white issue. This is an issue of how one man is portrayed as being something different than he is. He isn't a black man standing up and representing black America. He's my president. He's - despite his platform - the most energizing thing to happen to this country in my lifetime. At no point did I watch an address to America and almost cry before Tuesday night (save 9/11 maybe). At no point have I had so much anticipation to see what's next from someone who I actually believe can do the job for all of us.

I just wish his message to America would get out of the race mud puddle that it has started out in. I understand the importance. I can say that I understand what it means to African Americans, but I couldn't claim to actually understand. However, the most significant social issue in this country has ALWAYS been race. It is the one thing that has traditionally divided us since our inception as a nation. Let's move passed the issue of race and let our next President be everyone's great leader.

Current State of the Union

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

'From that moment on, the majority ALWAYS vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;

2. from spiritual faith to great courage;

3. from courage to liberty;

4. from liberty to abundance;

5. from abundance to complacency;

6. from complacency to apathy;

7. from apathy to dependence (current phase of America);

8. from dependence back into bondage

It's a sad state of affairs we see now. It has appeared and continues to appear to me that the following things are 100% gone in America - Free will, exploration of the soul through land and toil, new ideas to bring about the next great political liberating change, monetary independence (or even the choice to be free of the monetary system at all).

The next great idea may come from the 3rd world nation with the most natural resources as of yet to plundered. What made America great wasn't so much our Government as it was our unsettled land and vast abundance of natural resources directly linked to the Industrial Age's techonological advances.

My two cents - on this day. An important day. But... not as important as we might think. What scares me the most besides McCain losing... is Obama losing... I don't know why but that's what my gut tells me.
