Money
Dearest daughter -
Let's talk about money. Daddy is no money wizard. He grew up kinda poor and then started to make money too early in life. Which means - he spent it all. I hope to teach you a little bit more about money. But we'll see how that goes -
First let's talk about making money:
There are a few ways to do this -
1. Work for a large organization or company - don't do this. I'm just going to flat out say this... don't ever do this. Don't ever imagine for a second that you'll be happy working for someone else's wealth because you feel secure and work for a large wonderful company. The only people that make money at those companies are complete pariahs. Please don't work somewhere over 50 people.
2. Work for a small business. This can be fruitful - but you need to understand and demand equity in the company.
3. Work for yourself - this is the real ticket. Don't be afraid to start your own business early on in life. You'll learn more from this than anything else. Daddy didn't do this - and he always regretted it. It always seemed too hard and confusing. Now I'm too old and it's too risky. But... if I could go back I would have developed my own business. The downfall to your own business is being a consultant - that's tough. You have to find clients - keep them happy - and then find new ones. Tough gig actually.
4. Be a professional - Doctor, Lawyer, master craftsman - whatever - work solo - work in a small group but be a professional. Hone a trade and get good at it. Read. Use your words. Use your wits. Stand firm when negotiating.
Anyway - money is money. I've been happy without and happy with it. But I always knew somehow I would make enough of it to give you what you need. So there's that...
Love
Dad
