Merry Christmas
Dearest children -
The Beatles finally got loaded on to Spotify. I know by the time you read this - that will seem like an absurd thing to say - but - to us old(s) it's a big deal. It got me thinking to jot down what I would sing to you when you were little babies.
Well - Ella - when you were little you slept and went to sleep easier than your brother. You also got off the late night bottle at an earlier age - and your Mother would put you to sleep more often than I would. There was only one of you and she was in charge of the only child - and - that was ok with me... putting kids to bed can be difficult. But the few times I did put you to bed I would sing Itsy Bitsy Spider, You are My Sunshine (this is one of your Mother's favorites), the alphabet song, Clementine, and other older traditional songs. As you got a little older I sang Looking Into You by Jackson Browne - but you weren't really that into it...
Wells - now I put you to bed almost exclusively at this point - for almost 9 month or so it's been you and I every night... unless I am working late or am not home by 6:45 - your bed time. We have sung tons of things - I started out with Hey Jude because it was one of the only songs I could remember the words to... then we moved on to Looking Into You - same as your sister - and then we really got on a roll with The Load Out and Rosie - both by Jackson Browne. I also sang Yesterday by the Beatles, and You are My Sunshine as well - and Sweet Baby James by James Taylor.
Merry Christmas - you have all my love and confidence for a better world.
