For anyone wondering about my thoughts on the speech...
I think I just saw the speech of my generation. It reached all it stayed low key and set the tone of hope and hard work for years to come. These were the things that America thrived on...our current state of decadence and self-righteous action is very recent and something that we need to stray from.
His message of love with acceptance and "extending our hand to those who will release their clenched fist..." moved me. The president's role throughout American history, and as defined in the constitution, and what was thought to be by our framers, was one of international diplomacy and domestic hope. I think we all saw that today.
I was very proud to be an American today. I am, as of today, very hopeful of our future on the back of his speech.
The reality however is much different, but for a brief time, and for a round of drinks and back slaps and for those that wait the coming months with bated breath I will approach with the same optimism that they feel.
