Quick Whiskey Primer
I want to give my take on whiskey for a moment. It’s not a professional or scholarly take and aside from imbibing I’ve maybe read about a book and a half of published pieces on the topic of whiskey.
But here is my take -
I'm an Irish Whiskey drinker by heart. Why? It's simple and straight forward. It's not too sugary or too peaty which I find in Bourbon and Scotch. And it's not complicated on price. There are tiers to Irish Whiskey and the taste usually goes dryer as the price goes up.
First tier -
Jameson
Tullymore Dew
Powers
Red Breast
Green Spot
Second Tier
Rarer version and 12yr + on the above
Top Tier
Midleton and Jameson Reserve - 30 year plus ages.
Scotch to me is interesting but I'll be honest it makes me a little queasy aside from the one or two at a dinner. The range there is from Dalwhinnie (light) to Lephroic (heavy) and everything in between. A normal sctoch drinker would most likely enjoy any Glen(fill in the blank) 12 year old or better. The tastes there vary but not too much.
Bourbon and Rye are not things I enjoy. I hate the taste of sugar or syrup in drinks.
There's my crummy primer.
